Dr. Lisa Franzetta, L.Ac.
Dr. Lisa is the founder of Griffin Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine, serving Oakland and the East Bay. Lisa is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine, a board certified and licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, and an NCCAOM certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. She received her doctorate and her Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from Berkeley’s Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College, where she graduated summa cum laude. Prior to that, she received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Brown University. She has also trained at the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Tianjin, China.
Lisa was introduced to acupuncture when her first cat, a six-toed rescue tabby named Seamus, was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. After learning that acupuncture and herbs could provide complementary support to his Western veterinary treatment, she became fascinated by Chinese medicine’s holistic approach to healing. A longtime yoga student, avid runner, and a Road Runners Club of America certified coach, she enjoys helping everyone from serious athletes to off-the-couch enthusiasts stay pain and injury free. She also specializes in providing integrative support to cancer patients throughout their treatment and recovery and is a volunteer at Oakland’s Charlotte Maxwell Clinic, which provides integrative care to underserved women with cancer.
In addition to reviewing lab work and providing nutrition and lifestyle counseling, Dr. Lisa particularly enjoys prescribing custom-blended plant-based versions of herbal formulas that traditionally contain animal products. A lifelong animal lover and vegan herself, she is also a Fellow of the American Board of Animal Acupuncture.
